Officially named St Albans City station, but usually shortened to St Albans, this is the larger of two stations serving the city. It is sited about half a mile east of the centre – ten minutes walk down Victoria Street will bring you to the bustling high street shops, restaurants and pubs.

The station is on the Midland Main Line, which runs between London St Pancras International and Sheffield, and also has direct services to Gatwick Airport, Luton Airport, and Brighton. The station was first opened in 1868 when the Midland Railway opened a new line between Bedford and its then brand new terminus at St Pancras. Nowadays it's an important hub for visitors to this historic cathedral city and for commuters – the journey into the capital takes only 20 minutes. At the last count, the station saw over 7 million passengers pass through in a year and numbers continue to grow.
